2023 Pulse Results

The first survey saw a huge response with 158 individual respondents from 14 industries. Planners (33%) and Certifiers (26%) were amongst the professions most represented.

Significantly, more than half of respondents (59%) had multiple or large-scale interactions with the NSW Planning System in the twelve months prior to undertaking the survey, increasing the validity of their experiences with the system as more than a one-off interaction.

When asked the area of the Planning System people interact with, over 89% had interactions with more than one component, the planning portal (26%) and complying development (17%) components rated highest identified.

The results showed a wide range of experiences by customers. Experiences differed across the professions and the respondent’s role in the system. Some respondents welcomed the introduction of the Planning Portal and suggested it worked well, particularly by providing efficiencies in complying development controls. Others raised opportunities to streamline planning pathways and improve relationships between regulators and users would better support quality development outcomes.
